The 61st International Mathematics Olympiad has solemnly started in the Herzen University.
From the studio, deployed in the university Mariinsky hall, the YouTube translation of the opening ceremony was recorded on the IMO channel. The Minister of Education if the Russian Federation Sergey Kravtsov, the governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov, the council president of IMO Jeff Smith and the university rector of RGPU Im. A. I. Gertsena Sergey Bogdanov greeted the audience from the whole world!
“The chance of the Olympiad not taking place wasn’t even considered- emphasized Jeff Smith. – Some of you will have to solve problems in the evening, others will have to do it in the morning. We’ll be working nonstop during the Olympiad. I hope that everything will go well. See you all after it’s over.”
During the opening ceremony of the Olympiad all of the teams of the participating countries were presented. Altogether there will be more than 600 young men and women from 108 countries taking part in the Olympiad.
